If your Cloud VPS, Cloud VDS, or Dedicated Server runs in our US West Location, it moved recently. You probably didn’t notice, because we made sure the transition was seamless, but we thought you’d like to know more about the new data center anyway. Over the past weeks, we relocated the entire Location out of its original Seattle home and into a newer facility nearby, and we did it without asking most customers to lift a finger.
A newer building with a Tier III rating
The new US West facility sits in Tukwila, Washington, close to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, in a Tier III certified data center campus, a step up from our previous location. The building offers roughly 75,776 sq ft of raised floor and 109 MW of utility power, well above what our old site needed to run comfortably.
Physical security stepped up along with the rating. Access runs through two-factor authentication, biometric scanners, and badge readers, with entrance mantraps and ballistic glass at the lobby. Cameras record around the clock, with 90 days of footage retained. None of this changes how you use your server, but it does change how well the building protects it.
Why we moved before we had to
The move was strategic, not a reaction to a problem. Our previous Seattle location did its job, but a more modern facility gives us a higher Tier rating, better on-site support, and enough headroom to grow the region for years instead of scrambling for space again in a year or two. We’d rather make this kind of move on our own schedule than get forced into it later.
Migrating a live region is not glamorous work. It’s checklists, verification passes, and a lot of double-checking IP assignments before flipping any switch. We’ll spare you the play-by-play, but rest assured that it went off without a hitch thanks to the careful planning and execution by our team.
Who this affects, and who it doesn’t
Anyone running a Cloud VPS, Cloud VDS, or Dedicated Server in the US West Region is on the new facility now: the migration is complete. Customers in US East, US Central, or any of our EU, UK, or Asia regions saw no change at all. This was a US West facility move only, not a platform-wide change.
What to do next: probably nothing
For most customers, there is nothing to do. Cloud VPS and Cloud VDS instances were migrated online, and Dedicated Servers were relocated by Contabo technicians working alongside local Smart Hands at the new site. If your server has been reachable and behaving normally, you’re already done.
If you notice anything unusual, a change in latency, an unexpected reboot, or a connectivity gap around the move window, contact Contabo support with your server ID. We can check your instance against the migration log directly.
FAQ
The new facility sits in Tukwila, Washington, near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. It replaces our original Seattle location and offers more raised floor space, higher utility power capacity, and a Tier III certification, a step up from the previous site. The Location name, US West, has not changed, only the building behind it.
No. Cloud VPS and Cloud VDS instances kept their existing IP addresses and configuration through the move, and Dedicated Servers kept theirs as well. If you notice a change to your server’s IP address or any connectivity issue after the move, contact Contabo support with your server ID so we can check it against the migration records directly.
Cloud VPS and Cloud VDS instances moved online with minimal disruption. Dedicated Servers required a scheduled offline window, since physical hardware had to move between buildings. Contabo technicians and local Smart Hands handled the physical relocation on-site, coordinating rack removal, transport, and reinstallation as a single scheduled event rather than a rolling process. Both migration paths were planned in advance to keep interruption as short as possible.
No. This is a facility upgrade, not a pricing change: every Cloud VPS, Cloud VDS, and Dedicated Server in the US West Region keeps its current specs and rate. If you have any questions about your plan or invoice, contact Contabo support directly with your account details, or check your current rate in the Customer Control Panel.
The new site adds two-factor authentication, biometric scanners, and badge readers at entry points, along with entrance mantraps and ballistic glass in the lobby. Cameras record continuously with 90 days of footage retained. Combined with a higher Tier rating and 24/7 on-site Remote Hands support, the building offers stronger physical protection than our previous US West location did.
