The History of Contabo
Founded in the spring of 2003, Contabo began as a humble operation with just a single server. Today, we're powering over 450,000 servers worldwide. Here's how we achieved this massive global growth in just 20 years.
In 2009, we launched a cutting-edge data center designed to house over 4,000 physical servers. Our support team is based right at the site, ensuring they're on hand every day of the year - holidays and weekends included - to deliver lightning-fast responses.
Originally known as "Giga-International," we rebranded to Contabo in 2013 and expanded our reach beyond local borders to serve more international customers.
By 2014, the demand for our VPS and Dedicated Servers soared, prompting us to open a second data center in Nuremberg. This facility boasts the capacity for 10,000 servers spread across a 1,700 m² (around 18,300 sq ft) floor, with a new office to ensure rapid support.
2020 marked our first venture outside Europe with the opening of data centers across Central, East, and West USA, enhancing our connectivity and service across the United States. Additional locations worldwide soon followed.
Now, more than 20 years from our humble beginnings, our team has grown from two founders to about 300 dedicated professionals. Operating across 12 locations in 9 regions on 4 continents, we continue to uphold our founding commitment to offering the best in cloud infrastructure and customer support at prices you won't find anywhere else.

He splits his time between business-changing decision-making, lecturing at the University of MĂĽnster and quality time with his family.
Finance leader with 15+ years of experience as CFO and in senior executive finance roles within the telco and software industries. Began his career in PwC's Technology Team, developing deep expertise in managing financial operations for tech-driven businesses. Former athlete, passionate sports enthusiast, values quality time with his family.
Executive and serial entrepreneur with a Silicon Valley background. Alex has 10+ years of experience in SaaS industry. He worked with 20+ hosting and cloud providers in the EU, US and India. Outside of work, he switches to growing virtual empires in video games.
Lisa is an experienced executive with over 10 years track record in building and managing HR organizations in PE-backed cloud and hosting companies. She studied General and HR Management. Besides work, Lisa is a passionate equestrian.
Software engineer turned executive with 20 years of experience in software development, mainly in the cloud industry. PhD in software architecture. In his spare time, Rémy works on DIY projects.
Severin has over 20 years of experience in IT, most of which he spent in leadership roles in the hosting and cloud industry, responsible for IT operations and development. In his free time, he enjoys gardening or exploring the world through travel.
Markus has been working in various M&A roles for over 13 years and is joining Contabo from his most recent position as Head of M&A for the United Internet Group. In his private life, he enjoys spending time with his family and occasionally enjoys triathlons.
