We’re making 2025 a year of constant improvement at Contabo. We’ve been listening to what you want: faster servers, better performance, and prices that won’t make your wallet cry. Over the past months, we’ve been quietly working on a major upgrade to our infrastructure that delivers on all three fronts.
The New CPUs on the Block
In December, we started looking at the newest AMD EPYC Turin 9555P processors for our virtualization hosts fleet. We’ve now deployed hundreds of these powerful CPUs in our Hub Europe and US Central locations, and we’re excited by the results. This isn’t just any upgrade – it represents a significant leap in how efficiently we can run your workloads.
“Why should I care about your new CPUs?” you ask. Fair question. Here’s the straightforward answer: these processors let us fit more virtual machines on each physical server while significantly improving performance. Our tests show we can host up to three times the number of VPS instances with just twice the power usage compared to our previous CPU generation, without cutting back on performance. Of course, we pass the savings directly on to you.
Real-World Benefits
When we explain processor upgrades, it’s easy to get stuck in technical details. But what matters is what these improvements mean for you in practical terms:
- More stable performance
With more processing headroom, your VPS instances experience fewer resource conflicts during peak times. - Better value for your money
Higher server efficiency means we can keep offering competitive prices while improving service quality. - Greener hosting
Hosting three times more VPS instances with only twice the energy means each individual instance has a significantly smaller environmental footprint.
As Marlo Ehrlich, our Director of Platform Operations, puts it:
In a highly competitive business, we continuously benchmark and evaluate new technologies to ensure optimal customer performance and operational efficiency. After testing the AMD EPYC Turin series CPUs, we saw a noticeable boost in efficiency, allowing us to optimize server density across our data centers.
Part of Our Ongoing Improvements
If you’ve been following our recent updates, you know we’ve been busy:
- Resolving the server issues some customers experienced in 2024
- Introducing Auto Backup for data protection
- Opening our Hub Europe data center
- Launching our new Customer Control Panel
The Turin CPU deployment as virtualization hosts is another important part of this ongoing drive to improve our service to you. It aligns with our commitment to finding ways to deliver better performance without asking you to pay more.
Where and When Can I Get This?
If you’re using our VPS services in Hub Europe or US Central, you might already be running on a Turin-powered host – we’ve been quietly rolling them out since January, with deployments expanding in the coming months.
Of course, we’re always looking for efficient ways to reuse our servers, and the new Turin models are no exception. Who knows, our next Dedicated Server offering might be around the corner…
The Bottom Line
At Contabo, we’ve always believed in providing real value rather than marketing hype. The introduction of Turin CPUs helps us deliver on that promise – efficiently, effectively, and with you, our customers, firmly in mind.
We hope you’re as excited by this news as we are! This is just the beginning – keep a close eye on our social media channels and blog for more information on our ongoing improvements.
