Sustainability
At Contabo, we're committed to reducing the environmental impact of our server infrastructure. We provide responsible cloud services, with the environment as a central focus. Continuous data center optimization, energy efficient hardware, and green energy usage are all key aspects that limit the carbon footprint of your cloud.
How We're Building the Cloud of the Future
Optimized Data Center Operations
Our Data Centers are designed around energy efficiency. Cooling is handled through direct free-air cooling systems that use outside air for temperature control for large parts of the year. This significantly cuts the energy needed for mechanical cooling. Our locations are equipped with solar panels, with all generated energy used on-site. Our European Data Center achieves an outstanding PUE and holds a ISO 50001 certification.
Energy Efficient Hardware
The relationship between energy efficiency and performance is something we look at very carefully when deciding on which hardware to use in our data centers. That's exactly why we prioritize CPU models with best-in-class performance-to-efficiency ratios as we continuously refresh our infrastructure.
Certified Green Power and Renewable Energy
As a Data Center operator, we know that however much we optimize, we will still consume energy. That's why all of our owned Data Center locations run on 100% certified renewable electricity. A part of this is even produced on-site through our own solar panels.
We're also working to increase the share of renewables at our colocation sites, which are operated by third parties. On top of that, our backup generators run on renewable diesel alternatives, cutting emissions where conventional fuel would otherwise be used.

Sustainability Metrics
Clean Energy
We are commited to continuing to procure 100% certified green energy from sources such as wind, hydro, and solar - and to keeping this figure consistent as we grow.
Energy Efficiency
We keep a close eye on Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) across all our Data Centers. Having already achieved our target of 1.3, we are committed to maintaining this level of efficiency going forward.
Decarbonization
In 2025, our owned European Data Centers recorded a CUE ratio of 0.07 kgCO₂eq/kWh. We are committed to keeping this figure low and reducing our carbon emissions further.
