The RDP session will be established within a few seconds automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system will prompt you for the credentials of the Windows Server. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contabo users find their username in the Customer Control Panel, section VPS, VDS or Server control. The username for Windows Server is most likely <strong>Administrator<\/strong>, unless you are using advanced features, such as custom OS images. If not sure about your Contabo server&#8217;s password, you can always reset your password in the Customer Control Panel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"302\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/VNC-password-1.png\" alt=\"password change\" class=\"wp-image-13080\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Alternatively, you might choose a few options beforehand (e.g. screen resolution and audio settings). If not, please try to reboot your server using your customer control panel: <a href=\"https:\/\/my.contabo.com\/account\/login\">https:\/\/my.contabo.com\/account\/login<\/a><\/li><li>If you use a VPS, you can also connect to your server through VNC to check the server and firewall settings:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/?show=tutorials&amp%3Btutorial=vnc-connect-vps\">https:\/\/contabo.com\/?show=tutorials&amp;tutorial=vnc-connect-vps<\/a><\/li><li>If you use a dedicated server, please get in contact with us at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:support@contabo.com\">support@contabo.com<\/a>, if you do not have a KVM device attached to your server yet<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. &#8220;The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop Licence Servers available to provide a license. Please contact the server administrator.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"562\" height=\"145\" src=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/keine-Lizenzserver-verf\u00fcgbar-EN.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4617\" srcset=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/keine-Lizenzserver-verf\u00fcgbar-EN.png 562w, https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/keine-Lizenzserver-verf\u00fcgbar-EN-300x77.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 562px) 100vw, 562px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"short_text\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\">Causes \/ <\/span><\/span>Solutions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"short_text\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\">Obviously, a <strong>terminal service<\/strong> was installed on your server and no active licence server has been assigned yet. After the grace period of 90 respectively 120 days, all <strong>temporarily licences<\/strong> will be deleted and all further RDP logins will be rejected.<br><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To fix this issue, you either have to delete the <strong>terminal service<\/strong> or the affected Windows Registry key<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you rent a VPS, you can connect to your server through VNC to perform the required steps:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\">\nhttps:\/\/contabo.com\/?show=tutorials&#038;tutorial=vnc-connect-vps\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you use a dedicated server and you do not have a KVM device attached to your server yet, please get in contact with us at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:support@contabo.com\">support@contabo.com<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>* The required server role &#8220;<em>Remote Desktop Services<\/em>&#8221; can be deleted at the server manager (&#8220;Remove roles and features&#8221;)<br>* The affected<strong> Registry key<\/strong> can be deleted at the following path:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Terminal Server\\RCM\\GracePeriod<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important: Please be careful while changing settings at the Windows registry! Please create a full backup of the registry beforehand.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>* Now please perform a reboot of your server and you should be able to login to your server afterwards again<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<u><\/u><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>RDP connection from Linux<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Alternatively, you can also connect from <strong>Linux<\/strong> to your<strong> <strong>Windows<\/strong><\/strong> server via RDP. It should be installed by default if you already use a GUI (graphical desktop environment &#8211; e.g. &#8220;Gnome&#8221; or &#8220;KDE&#8221;)<\/li><li>Please note, it is generally not recommended to establish a RDP connection through SSH<\/li><li>Alternatively, there is another program called &#8216;freeRDP&#8217;, which can be used instead of &#8216;rdesktop&#8217;. Please find more information about it at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freerdp.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.freerdp.com\/<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RDP connection from <b>MacOS<\/b><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to be able to establish a RDP connection from <b>MacOS<\/b> based systems (e.g. <b>Apple MacBook<\/b>),&nbsp;a RDP client is also required.
