{"id":4125,"date":"2016-10-19T10:52:33","date_gmt":"2016-10-19T08:52:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/?p=4125"},"modified":"2025-05-23T15:06:04","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T13:06:04","slug":"upgrading-plesk-12-5-onyx","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/upgrading-plesk-12-5-onyx\/","title":{"rendered":"Upgrading Plesk to Obsidian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With this short tutorial we will show you how to upgrade your Plesk installation to Plesk Obsidian.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Before proceeding you should perform a backup of all important data. An upgrade always bears the risk of data loss.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>On an SSD VPS you will have the ability to create a snapshot, creating a snapshot will give you the possibility to perform easily a rollback to the state &#8220;before upgrading&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>On any other VPS or dedicated server we recommend downloading all backup files to your local PC or to our FTP backupspace.<\/p>\n<p>After you have saved all important data you will be able to continue upgrading:<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Linux:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Login via SSH and use <em>sudo -i <\/em>to start a shell with &#8220;root&#8221; privileges<br \/>\n2. Type in the following command:<\/p>\n<p><code>plesk installer<\/code><\/p>\n<p>If this command is not working, you can download and execute the installer using the following commands:<\/p>\n<p><code>wget http:\/\/autoinstall.plesk.com\/plesk-installer<\/code><br \/>\n<code>chmod +x plesk-installer<\/code><br \/>\n<code>.\/plesk-installer<\/code><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Windows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Login via RDP and open the CMD.exe with Administrator rights (Windows-Key + R)<br \/>\n2. Type in the following command:<\/p>\n<p><code>\"%plesk_bin%\"\\ai.exe --console<\/code><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Once you have opened the Plesk Installer you will probably see a warning telling you to backup all your important files.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plesk_windows.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4129\" src=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plesk_windows-300x209.jpg\" alt=\"plesk_windows\" width=\"508\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plesk_windows-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plesk_windows.jpg 663w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After you have agreed you should see something like the image below, there should be displayed your current version of Plesk; if you want to perform the upgrade you will have to select the right version by typing the correct number, in this case number <em>2<\/em>. You can only upgrade to Plesk Obsidian from Plesk Onyx. So if you have an older Plesk Version installed, you will have to upgrade to Plesk Onyx first!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plesk_upgrade_versionen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4128\" src=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plesk_upgrade_versionen-300x105.jpg\" alt=\"plesk_upgrade_versionen\" width=\"300\" height=\"105\" srcset=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plesk_upgrade_versionen-300x105.jpg 300w, https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/plesk_upgrade_versionen.jpg 644w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After typing in the number of your desired Plesk installation you will accept the download of those new packages.
