{"id":14232,"date":"2022-09-14T22:09:47","date_gmt":"2022-09-14T20:09:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/?p=14232"},"modified":"2022-10-10T04:17:15","modified_gmt":"2022-10-10T02:17:15","slug":"how-to-use-plesk-for-backups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/how-to-use-plesk-for-backups\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Use Plesk for Backups"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Backing up your crucial data is one of the most important things to keep in mind when operating your own server (no matter if it is a <a href=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/en\/vps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VPS<\/a> or a <a href=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/en\/dedicated-servers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dedicated Server<\/a>). Several tools and approaches are available for that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contabo offers <a href=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/en\/object-storage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">S3-compatible Object Storag<\/a>e which can be used for backups of your data. Your files are stored in our Data Center with three redundancy disks in Ceph. That means three drives can fail at the same time without affecting data.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the following article, we explain how you can use the Plesk Backup Manager with our S3-compatible Object Storage to back up your server running Plesk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/blog-head_backup-plesk.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/blog-head_backup-plesk.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/blog-head_backup-plesk-600x315.jpg 600w, https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/blog-head_backup-plesk-768x403.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-preparing-your-object-storage\"><strong>Preparing your Object Storage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before setting up a backup for your Plesk instance, we need to prepare our Object Storage first. To do so login to the Object Storage dashboard <a href=\"https:\/\/new.contabo.com\/storage\/object-storage\/buckets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After successfully login in, click on <em>Create Bucket<\/em> to create a Bucket, in which you backups will be saved. It makes sense to give it a fitting name e.g. the servers name or the IP address of the belonging server so you won\u2019t lose track of different backups in your Object Storage. If you want, you can even create some subfolders in this bucket but this is optional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-preparing-plesk-backup-manager\"><strong>Preparing Plesk Backup Manager<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now it\u2019s time to setup the actual backup in Plesk. This will work on every edition of Plesk, no matter if you got \u201cWeb Admin\u201d, \u201cWeb Pro\u201d or the \u201cWeb Host\u201d edition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enter the IP-Address of your server into a browser or \u2013 in case you are a Contabo customer &#8211; use the direct link which you got in the \u201c<em>Your login data!<\/em>\u201d email.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now login to the Plesk dashboard using the credentials you\u2019ve assigned when ordering the server.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By default it\u2019s not possible to save Plesk backups on S3-compatible Object Storage. OpenStack, etc.) \n\n<strong>API Endpoint URL:<\/strong> e.g. https:\/\/eu2.contabostorage.com \n\n<strong>Login (Key):<\/strong> Can be found in Contabo\u2019s Object Storage Dashboard: \n\n<strong>Account > Security &amp; Access > S3 Object Storage Credentials > Access Key<\/strong>\n\n<strong>Password (Secret):<\/strong> Can be found in Contabo\u2019s Object Storage Dashboard: \n\n<strong>Account > Security &amp; Access > S3 Object Storage Credentials > Secret Key<\/strong>\n\n<strong>Bucket:<\/strong> Insert the name of the bucket you\u2019ve created earlier \n\n<strong>Path:<\/strong> If you are using subfolders enter the subfolder name (e.g. \/backups), otherwise use a slash \/ \n\nNow go back to the Backup Manager and click on \u201cBack up\u201d to start a manual backup of your Plesk instance. <\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Now go back to the Backup Manager and click on \u201cBack up\u201d to start a manual backup of your Plesk instance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scheduling-recurring-backups-in-plesk\"><strong>Scheduling Recurring Backups in Plesk<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In case you don\u2019t want to perform manual backups all the time you could simply schedule them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to the Backup Manager in Plesk again and select \u201cSchedule\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
