You can find our article about <a href=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/backup-strategies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">backup strategies here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you use Windows Server, use the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/exchange\/using-windows-server-backup-to-back-up-and-restore-exchange-data-exchange-2013-help\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Windows Server Backup (WSB)<\/a><\/strong> solution from Microsoft to quickly and easily schedule backups of the entire server and specific storage volumes, files, or folders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This tutorial will show you the process required to perform automated backups of cloud servers using Windows Server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-installing-windows-server-backup\"><strong>Installing Windows Server Backup\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/en\/windows-servers-vps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Windows Server<\/a> Backup is a feature provided by Microsoft to create backup copies of servers. First, open the <strong>Windows Server Management Panel Dashboard<\/strong>, click <strong>Add Roles and Features<\/strong> and proceed to install this backup feature.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Bild1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13516\" width=\"651\" height=\"319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Bild1.png 604w, https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Bild1-600x294.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 651px) 100vw, 651px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">A multipart window will appear on the left. Feel free to <strong>skip<\/strong> the information requested in the first &#8220;<strong>Before You Begin<\/strong>&#8221; section and continue. Then in the second window &#8220;<strong>Installation<\/strong> type&#8221; select the &#8220;<strong>Role-based<\/strong> <strong>or feature-based installation<\/strong>&#8221; item and continue. In the <strong>Server Selection<\/strong> section, select the server on which to install Windows Server Backup and continue. Click Next to continue in the Server Roles section. In the Getting Started section, just click <strong>Next<\/strong> to get started.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to create a backup of the <strong>entire<\/strong> <strong>system<\/strong>, leave the entry &#8220;<strong>Full<\/strong> <strong>server<\/strong>&#8221; in &#8220;<strong>Choose<\/strong> <strong>a<\/strong> <strong>backup<\/strong> <strong>configuration<\/strong>&#8220;. Otherwise, select \u201c<strong>Custom<\/strong>\u201c to specify only <strong>specific<\/strong> <strong>volumes<\/strong>, <strong>files<\/strong>, or <strong>folders<\/strong> for backup. Finally, click <strong>Next<\/strong> to proceed to the next section.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Specify Backup <strong>Time<\/strong> <strong>section<\/strong>, specify whether you want to back up <strong>once<\/strong> <strong>a<\/strong> <strong>day<\/strong> at a specific time (<strong>first<\/strong> <strong>bullet<\/strong>), or you want to always perform <strong>multiple<\/strong> <strong>backups<\/strong> on the <strong>same<\/strong> <strong>day<\/strong> (<strong>second<\/strong> <strong>bullet<\/strong>).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you selected the &#8220;<strong>Several<\/strong> <strong>times<\/strong> <strong>a<\/strong> <strong>day<\/strong>&#8221; item, just select the desired time in the left column and click &#8220;Add&#8221;. To delete an incorrect time, simply click on the time in the right column and click Delete. After setting the backup frequency, click <strong>Next<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"612\" height=\"461\" src=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Bild5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13528\" srcset=\"https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Bild5.png 612w, https:\/\/contabo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Bild5-600x452.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the \u201c<strong>Specify Destination Type<\/strong>\u201d section, you will be requested where to store your backup file. Each storage option has its pros and cons, each listed in its respective item. So, consider carefully where to store your backup.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-available-options\">Available options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three options available:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Saving to local hard disk<\/strong> : by selecting this item, the backup will be carried out on a local hard disk installed on the server itself. Please note that the hard disk in question will be formatted, once selected, so remember to move any existing data to another hard disk.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Saving to volume<\/strong>: by selecting this item a part of the hard disk can be used as backup storage. However, keep in mind that, when choosing this option, the read \/ write speed on the hard disk may slow down considerably during the backup phase. If you plan to use this method, it may be a good strategy to schedule the backup at times when your server has fewer accesses.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Saving to a folder on the network<\/strong>: by selecting this item your server can be backed up to a hard disk on the network. This will allow you to store your data on a NAS or another available Cloud Server. In this case, however, as it is overwritten each time, only one backup at a time can be saved.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After selecting the option that suits you, click on&#8221;Next&#8221;. In this example, the option \u201cSaving to volume\u201d is selected.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, the &#8220;Confirmation&#8221; section shows a summary of the backup settings you have chosen. Click on &#8220;Finish&#8221; to schedule the backup.
